Art

96th Street STEAM Academy is a Creative Arts Network school.   All grades K-6 receive arts instruction in dance, music, theatre and visual arts.

Music

The LAUSD elementary music program at 96th Street provides students with experience in music through the elements of melody, rhythm, harmony, and tempo and providing students with opportunities to experience how those elements are interrelated to contribute to an overall musical experience. Instruction activities include listening, singing, moving, playing, and reading and writing of music.  Students interact with music to develop musical skills and concepts.

Theater

The LAUSD elementary theatre program at 96th Street offers students "a unique way of experiencing the world!"
Through theatre, students learn how to develop and improve creative skills through a variety of theatre experiences.

Students are given opportunities to use their imaginations in theatre activities so that they can "perform with self-confidence, participate collaboratively, and enhance problem-solving abilities."

Students can take these skills and transform them into skills for life.

Dance

The LAUSD elementary dance program  at 96th Street provides standards-based instruction in dance in grades K through 5.  Students experience dance as art in an educational setting - "performing, creating, responding and connecting their dance learning to their own experiences."

Visual Art

The LAUSD Elementary Visual Arts program at 96th Street is informed by the Arts Instructional Guide (AIG).  The AIG is organized by grade level with instruction tailored to each grade.  At each grade level there is a 'big idea' and essential questions that guide the instruction.
